In Matthew 18:15-20 it says, "Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother. But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established. And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican. Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them."
This passage is referring to a falling out or issue that occurs between two brothers / sisters in Christ. You are to address it personally before going further. This passage does not specifically refer to public issues - where one group (such as church administrators) publicly causes hurt for another group. So in many senses, this passage does not apply to what the PEARL campaign stands for.
Nevertheless, we have still chosen to address things more quietly first before making any public revelation of our disappointment. While there have been others who have privately and publicly addressed the GC administration regarding these statements, Henk has also personally spoken with Ted Wilson. There has also been a petition that has been presented to the GC administration at the last GC in session by Mr. Jonathan Zirkle. This had over 23,000 signatures of health professionals and pastors who opposed the statements. Since then, the General Conference has received dozens of letters from churches and two conferences around the world. They have been addressed as privately as can be. But public sins do need to be addressed publicly. Furthermore corporate sins need to be addressed corporately.
Some are concerned about what we are sharing on social media. The reality is that the information made available on social media is in the public domain. Moreover, we are only presenting on YouTube channels that are wanting to be sensitive to and encourage people to remain in the SDA church. We have not presented on a channel that is part of a separated ministry.
Ezekiel 3: 17-19 is very clear that if we do not warn our brother when they are in sin then we have their blood on our hands. You will note that we do not specifically focus any discussion on a particular person except if it pertains to that person's position and authority. We do not cast judgments on the person's salvational status.
We believe we have faithfully practiced Matthew 18, even though it does not necessarily apply to this situation.
